Once we have gone through a trauma or shock we can sometimes find it difficult to feel our own feelings.
The fear is that we will be overwhelmed by our feelings and we will lose control and not be able to cope.
It becomes much easier to stay up in our heads and cut off from our feelings. But the reality is that it can be exhausting suppressing how we feel and it can also cause us huge anxiety trying to stop ourselves feeling and trying hard too control our environment so our feelings aren’t triggered.
Psychotherapy can be a safe place to gently explore the feelings you have. Whilst being held energetically you can dip into the difficult places and then come back to a place of safety without getting overwhelmed. Slowly allowing the frozen places within to thaw and to release the deep emotions that have had to stay suppressed in order for you to feel safe. The important thing to remember is that these feeling will come up and then move away just a wave on the ocean. They wont stay stuck and you wont feel imprisoned by them.
It might feel difficult at first but the more you allow yourself to feel, the more at ease, free and at peace you will find yourself.
